How to confirm fitment before you order

Almost every product in the CARABC catalogue is defined by fitment, not by universal compatibility. The good news is that fitment here reduces to four facts: the exact vehicle, the model year, the system name, and the current screen. This guide explains how to establish each one and how the four facts map onto the product routes, so your inquiry can be answered in one round instead of three.

Fact 1: the exact vehicle

Model names in this range are precise: a listing for the Expedition does not cover the F150, and the DB601 covers seven named BMW motorcycle models, not the BMW range in general. Write the full model name as it appears on the vehicle, and for motorcycles include the model code exactly as it is written.

Fact 2: the model year

Every built-in listing carries a year span, and the spans have edges that matter: the Tundra stereo covers 2014–2019 while the Tundra upgrade kit covers 2022–2026, leaving 2020–2021 outside both titles. If your year falls outside a title's span, the correct action is an inquiry naming your year — not ordering and hoping.

Fact 3: the system name

System names — SYNC 2, SYNC 3, Sync4, NTG4.0, NTG4.5, NTG5.0, PCM 3.1, NBT EVO — decide the retrofit listings. You can usually find the name in the vehicle's system information screens or its documentation. If it is not displayed, photograph the main system screen and send it with your inquiry; a description of the menus is more useful than a guess at the name.

Fact 4: the current screen

Upgrade kits are titled by the screen change — 8 inch to 12 inch, or 8 inch to 14 inch for the Tundra. Confirm what is in the vehicle now. If the screen has already been replaced once, say so: the kit titles assume the factory starting point.

Putting the four facts to work

Send the four facts through the inquiry form. Please ask for the minimum order quantity and lead time for your order and confirm both before ordering. Vehicle-specific checks continue in the SYNC identification check and the NTG identification check.

Keeping the confirmation useful

Save the photographs and the system details you gathered with the reply you receive. Together they are the fitment record for that vehicle: if you order again, reorder for a second vehicle, or sell the vehicle with the equipment fitted, the record shows what was confirmed and against what. Buyers who keep this record rarely repeat the identification work; buyers who skip it start from memory a year later and rediscover why the four facts mattered.

A last word on near matches

Near matches are the enemy this guide is really about. A vehicle one year outside a span, a system one generation away, a model code one letter different — each feels close enough to try, and each is precisely the case the title does not cover. The four facts exist to surface near matches while they are still cheap: in the inquiry, where they cost a sentence, instead of at fitting time, where they cost an order.

Where the four facts lead

The same four facts, applied to real listings, are what separate the product routes:
